Coach Welton Johnson has been an educator and football coach since 2017. As a high school player, he was a 3-sport athlete, while leading his school to 3 State Championships. In college, at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, he was part of two Lone Star Conference Championship Teams. Coach Johnson went on to play two years of professional arena football after college.
As a coach, in his first year at Newman International Academy Cedar Hill, he helped field the school’s first ever varsity football team. In the following season as the Offensive Coordinator, he helped lead us to our first Semifinals appearance. In 2019 his offense was a huge part of leading our school to its first ever Texas High School Football State Championship. In 2021 Coach Johnson took over as the Head Coach and went on to lead us to winning the schools second Texas High School State Championship.
As an educator and coach, he has shown an amazing ability to bring the best out of his student athletes. Coach Johnson has built a great culture within the football program by getting them to buy into the motto of “Just Believe”.
